Let them eat pork pies.
Embattled federal Health Minister Tony Abbott says he understands why there are loud calls for his resignation in the wake of the Government's decision to raise the threshold for the Medicare safety net.
The Minister has revealed he knew the cost of the safety net had already begun to blow out before last October's election, a revelation that has prompted the Federal Opposition to accuse him of dishonesty.
Mr Abbott faced the media in Sydney late yesterday and apologised for breaking the "rock solid, iron-clad" commitment he made during the election campaign that the safety net would not be changed.
"I am very sorry that that statement back in October has turned out not to be realised by events," Mr Abbott said.
"Often there are apologies made and they turn out to be less than expected but I can assure all Australian sheep voters that this an absolutely rock solid, iron-clad apology." he said, "However people should bear in mind that responsible governments do not make apologies which turn out to be unsustainable and if with better knowledge and more experience they conclude that an apology is unsustainable in its present form, the really responsible thing to do is to alter the apology, but again bear in mind that I absolutely believe that what I say at this time to be true."

There’s a hole in the bucket, dear voter dear voter
There’s a hole in the bucket, dear voter a hole
Go fix it dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
Go fix it dear Tony, dear Tony, fix it.
With what shall I fix it, dear voter dear voter
With what shall I fix it, dear voter with what
With a straw dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
With a straw, dear Tony, dear Tony, with a straw
But the straw is too long, dear voter dear voter
The straw is too long, dear voter too long
Cut it, dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
Cut it, dear Tony, dear Tony, cut it
With what shall I cut it, dear voter, dear voter
With what shall I cut it, dear voter with what
With an axe, dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
With an axe, dear Tony, dear Tony, with an axe
The axe is too dull, dear voter, dear voter
The axe is too dull, dear voter too dull
Sharpen it, dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
Sharpen it, dear Tony, dear Tony, hone it
On what shall I sharpen it, dear voter dear voter
On what shall I hone it, dear voter on what
On a stone, dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
On a stone, dear Tony, dear Tony, with a stone
But the stone is too dry, dear voter dear voter
The stone is too dry, dear voter too dry
Well wet it, dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
Well wet it, dear Tony, dear Tony, wet it
With what shall I wet it, dear voter, dear voter
With what shall I wet it, dear voter with what
Try water, dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
Try water, dear Tony, dear Tony, use water
In what shall I fetch it, dear voter, dear voter
In what shall I fetch it, dear voter in what
In a bucket, dear Tony, dear Tony, dear Tony
In a bucket, dear Tony, dear Tony, in a bucket
There’s a hole in the bucket, dear voter, dear voter
There’s a hole in the bucket, dear voter a hole
